Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:      Under the general supervision of the Program Supervisor, is responsible for conducting a fitness class and within the range established by the Supervisor, uses whatever facilities and equipment are necessary to fulfill this function.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides a safe, effective, and enjoyable program for class participants.
  2. Makes necessary arrangements to have another instructor available and notifies the supervisor as soon as possible if unable to instruct a class.
  3. Ensures that each participant completes a Par-Q; documents any necessary information regarding a Par-Q that has a positive response.
  4. Answers questions from program participants within the bounds of past training experience and information.
  5. Brings any unusual developments in the class such as equipment or facility breakdown, or any questions for which he/she is unable to answer to the attention of the supervisor.
  6. Communicates participants’ requests, suggestions, and complaints to the supervisor; ensures that program evaluations are handed out, completed, and returned to the supervisor for each session.
  7. Makes recommendations to the supervisor regarding improvements to overall program effectiveness.
  8. Collaborates with the supervisor to create a program outline.
  9. Reports to the supervisor on a regular basis as established.
  10. Informs participants of facility rules and regulations to ensure participants are know in detail the rules that govern the specific area in which the instructor is assigned.
  11. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Experience:

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a recognized fitness leadership program and/or certification

Assets:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with associated experience in group teaching

 CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must undergo a successful police records check, Type 1
  • Must obtain Standard First Aid and 2 Person CPR within three months of employment
  • Must obtain WHMIS and customer service training
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act

 TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Part-time (not to exceed 24 hours per week)
  • Irregular hours (may have to work flexible hours)
