Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:  Under the general supervision of the Administrator, ensures that the nutritional care provided is consistent with current Ontario Dietetic Association Standards and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) standards. Key responsibilities include directing, monitoring, and evaluating the nutritional status of each resident and preparing nutritional care plans according to residents’ individual needs.



  1. Monitors and evaluates the nutritional status of each resident, including their current nutritional risk, prioritizing as required; documents these reviews as per MOHLTC standards and regulations.
  2. Assesses and documents the nutritional status of each new resident within MOHLTC standards and regulations.
  3. Prepares a nutritional care plan for each resident according to individual resident needs, which includes long-range goals.
  4. Works collaboratively as one of the clinical experts of the health care team relating medical and biochemical aspects of health and nutrition.
  5. Consults with and counsels residents and /or their families about specific nutritional needs.
  6. Provides direction to the Supervisor Nutritional & Food Services and the multidisciplinary team in order to meet the nutritional needs of residents, including regular menu review and approval.
  7. Provides direction to Pioneer Ridge Administration regarding nutrition and food service policies that reflect current standards of practice.
  8. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.





  • Degree majoring in human and therapeutic nutrition
  • Three years of therapeutic experience in a long-term care facility
  • Current membership as a Registered Dietician in the College of Dieticians of Ontario



  • An understanding of the nutritional and eating needs of the frail elderly is necessary
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain good working relations with private and public officials, superiors, co-workers, residents, families, and the general public
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Strong project/time management, analytical/critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to identify, understand, and meet/exceed the requirements of internal and external customers
  • Proficiency with office computer equipment and software
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act



  • Must undergo a successful police records check, Type II
  • Must have successfully undergone a "two step” tuberculosis skin test within the 12 months prior to employment
