Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:  Under the general direction of the Supervisor, assists in developing and providing effective Network & Technology Services solutions, strategic planning and project management, and applying suitable solutions to meet Departmental and Corporate requirements. Key responsibilities include project management, research, process analysis/reengineering, and planning.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides project management services for Network & Technology Services initiatives as directed, including resource requirements, scheduling, planning, and status reporting.
  2. Analyzes and assesses processes; recommends and assists in the deployment of departmental and Corporate process re-engineering activities; establishes business case support including budgetary and resource impact with respect to process improvement recommendations.
  3. Researches potential Network & Technology Services solutions to meet client and/or CIT needs; reports on findings and makes recommendations where required.
  4. Maintains effective and cooperative liaison with clients, vendors, suppliers, service providers, and staff in other organizations; maintains a high standard of public relations at all times.
  5. Assists in the development, implementation, and attainment of Section objectives, work plans, and schedules; assists in the same processes for Departmental and Divisional activities.
  6. Participates in Corporate cross-functional teams improving Corporate IS / IT processes.
  7. Ensures accurate Section records are maintained in accordance with Corporate policies.
  8. Participates in the preparation of annual capital and operating budget for the Section and Division budgets.
  9. Participates in Corporate-wide initiatives and cross-functional teams as required.
  10. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Experience

  • Degree in computer science or business administration majoring in information systems, together with a minimum of three years’ related experience with computer networking server technologies, enterprise system software; or
  • Diploma relating to computer systems/network technology, together with a minimum of five years’ related experience with computer networking server technologies, enterprise system software.
  • A minimum of one year related project management experience.

 

Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated attitude to excel at supporting client excellence
  • Strong understanding of organizational goals and objectives and project management principles
  • Superior ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing, with the ability to present ideas in a business friendly and user friendly language
  • Superior ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with other departments, subordinates, co-workers, and the general public
  • Ability to improve Divisional effectiveness and efficiency
  • Strong knowledge of network hardware, protocols and standards including IP networks, switches routers and firewalls
  • Understanding of applicable data security practices and law
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizing, and prioritizing

 

Assets:

  • Experience with ERP software
  • Experience with Server and Storage (SAN) Virtualization technologies
  • Experience with Enterprise Messaging Solutions
  • Knowledge of the functions of City departments, outside boards and local community groups
  • Project management certification
  • Computer networking certification

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must undergo a successful police records check, Type 1
  • Must sign a confidentiality agreement
  • May be required to attend meetings outside regular working hours
  • The use of a vehicle may be required
  • May be required to be on call
