Job Description

Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor – Sewer & Water, performs general duties and assists maintenance crews.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Assists maintenance crews with minor work tasks.
  2. Performs minor maintenance on fire hydrants.
  3. Assists with minor Inspection duties
  4. Cuts grass for hydrants.
  5. Assists with clerical tasks as necessary

Qualifications:

 

Education/Experience:

  • Must be a secondary school graduate and enrolled in a civil or environmental engineering program at a college or university.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English.
  • Must be highly motivated and work well in a team environment.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess superior customer service skills
  • Proficient in the use of computers and current related software (Word, Excel, etc.).

Assets:

  • Experience using computers is an asset.
  • Previous sewer and water experience is an asset.
  • Current Operator-in-Training Certificate from the Ministry of the Environment is an asset. 

Physical Demands:

  • This position requires constant standing/walking and frequent squatting/kneeling.
  • Must be able to operate a half ton truck.

  • Must have a valid Ontario driver’s licence, Class G, or its equivalent
