    Job Description

    POSITION SUMMARY:      Under the general supervision of the Clinical Manager and the direction of the registered nurse on duty, participates in the provision of care for the residents.

     

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Provides basic nursing care based on each resident’s developed care plan and within the framework of an established nursing program.
    2. Encourages and supports resident participation in activities of daily living.
    3. Provides input into the development and maintenance of resident care plans and participates in resident care conferences.
    4. Reports changes in residents’ physical and mental condition to the Registered Nurse and documents as per policy.
    5. Participates in maintaining a safe environment for residents and staff, demonstrating an appropriate response to emergencies and safety procedures.
    6. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:           

     

    Education/Experience:

    • Successful completion of a recognized personal support worker program approved by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care

     

    Skills/Abilities:

    • A genuine interest and understanding of the needs of the elderly is necessary
    • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
    • Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act

     

    Assets:

    • Experience in caring for the elderly would be an asset
    • Certification in CPR would be an asset

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:      This position requires constant standing/walking; frequent squatting/crouching; unilateral lifting 1- 25 lbs. frequently, bilateral lifting 50+ lbs. frequently, 15 – 75 lbs. occasionally; push/pull 5 – 100 lbs. frequently.

    Occasional = up to 33% of working day; Frequent = 34 – 66% of working day; Constant = 67 – 100% of working day.

     

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    • Must undergo a successful police records check, Type 2
    • Must have successfully undergone a "two step" tuberculosis skin test within the 12 months prior to employment
