    Job Description

    POSITION SUMMARY:      Under the general supervision of the Director and as part of the Corporate Services & Long Term Care Team, performs project review and consulting assignments in order to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Corporation’s financial business processes; conducts ongoing analysis of various Corporate Financial Information Systems (CFIS) business requirements; maintains the accounting and financial reporting functionality of various CFIS; prepares various financial reports and analyses; and undertakes other special projects as requested.

     

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Participates with the Division Director in planning and implementing short- and long-range goals and objectives.
    2. Provides assistance with the corporate budget, tangible capital asset accounting, general accounting, and documentation as required.
    3. Conducts best practice reviews and recommends business process re-engineering with respect to CFIS and business processes.
    4. Develops business and accounting processes for the effective utilization of the City’s CFIS.
    5. Administers various modules of the CFIS in conjunction with the project lead/manager and other departmental staff.
    6. Reviews, evaluates, plans, implements and administers the CFIS within the Corporation.
    7. Develops reports and financial statement specifications in the CFIS.
    8. Prepares financial reports, analyses, background material, and briefing notes.
    9. Conducts research studies, analyses, benchmarking research, and business case analysis for special projects, and compiles results.
    10. Participates in the long-term financial planning process as directed, including completion of financial modeling and long-range forecasting.
    11. Provides internal audit process reviews to ascertain Corporate compliance with established Corporate financial and procurement policies and procedures.
    12. Provides project-specific accounting and financial planning assistance to departments.
    13. Coordinates and leads cross-functional management teams, as required.
    14. Performs other related duties as may be assigned.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    Education/Experience:

    • Degree in business administration, commerce, or related discipline; and
    • A professional accounting designation; and
    • Three years of accounting experience in a computerized environment

     

    Skills/Abilities:

    • Strong skills and experience in public sector accounting and financial statement disclosure
    • Knowledge in the use of software applications for financial systems, including general ledger accounting, operating and capital budget systems
    • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing and to present ideas in a business and user-friendly language
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with members of City Council, private and public officials, departmental staff, co-workers, and the general public
    • Strong leadership skills together with the ability to coordinate cross-functional management teams
    • Ability to improve effectiveness and efficiency of Corporate financial business processes
    • Intermediate skill level in word processing and spreadsheet software,
    • Highly self-motivated and directed
    • Proven analytical, evaluative, and problem solving abilities
    • Independent judgment when dealing with confidential and sensitive issues
    • Ability to plan, develop, and deliver presentations using oral, written, and electronic communication

     

    Assets:

    • Experience with SAP software and FMW software

     

    CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:

    • Must undergo a successful police records check, Type 1
