    Job Description

    POSITION SUMMARY:  Under the general supervision of the Supervisor Transit Operations and working as part of a responsible team, provides a central control of daily work assignments for the Transit Division, including control room administration and the monitoring and quality control of all on-road service delivery.



    1. Administers daily control room operations to ensure continuity of service delivery including communication with Operators, the public, and administration.
    2. Investigates, responds to, resolves, and reports on customer inquiries, complaints, and issues regarding service information, trip requests, and scheduling; implements and monitors operational adjustments to maintain the proficiency of the service throughout the operating day.
    3. Coordinates daily work assignments and schedules; assigns and dispatches transit vehicles.
    4. Monitors on-road service levels to ensure vehicles and personnel are deployed and functioning efficiently and effectively.
    5. Verifies and logs payroll entries and exceptions for Operators.
    6. Assists with passenger issues as required and discreetly manages sensitive and confidential information.
    7. Responds to and conducts investigations into emergency situations including road and passenger incidents; effectively collects all relevant information, and dispatches emergency crews as required.
    8. Prepares reports of emergency situations and daily operational activities.
    9. Remains competent in and monitors for compliance of Federal, Provincial, Corporate, and Divisional policies and procedures, providing guidance to Operators; documents and reports non-compliance to Supervisor.
    10. Participates in investigating and resolving personnel issues, including coaching, mentoring, and disciplining of conventional and specialized Transit Operators.
    11. Works closely with Planning and Marketing Analyst and Specialized Transit Services Coordinator to resolve any trip/route scheduling issues.
    12. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.




    • Diploma in business administration, with an emphasis on human resources, together with one year demonstrated experience in the public transportation sector including supervisory experience in a unionized environment; or
    • Secondary school diploma; together with two years’ demonstrated experience in transit operations or four years’ within the transportation sector, preferably in a unionized environment


    • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, co-workers and customers
    • Ability to work with a diverse population and to identify, understand, and meet/exceed the requirements of internal and external customers
    • Strong project/time management, analytical/critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
    • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to supervise, motivate, and recognize staff
    • Proven conflict management abilities and mediation skills
    • Proficiency with office computer equipment and software, including word processing, spreadsheet, and scheduling applications
    • Must possess and maintain a valid Class "G" Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent
    • Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
    • Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act


    • Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation.
    • May be required to provide a successful driver’s abstract
    • Within 15 working days of receiving a conditional offer of employment, must successfully obtain a written beginners licence for an Ontario “C” Class with a “Z” endorsement
    • After training, must obtain and maintain a valid Ontario Class "C" driver’s licence with a "Z" endorsement
    • Required to work in a 365 day-per-year rotation and on rotating shifts
    • Must have or obtain First Aid and CPR certification
    • Must undergo a successful Police Information Check (PIC)
