Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the direction of the Administrator – Pioneer Ridge, is responsible for assisting the staff in tasks that require no hands on care of the resident.  No hands on care and no assistance with positioning and transferring is permitted.

 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Screens staff to ensure no signs of illness.
  2. Conducts mask fit testing for staff.
  3. Provides friendly visiting to residents/tenants.
  4. Participates in small group resident activities and programs.
  5. Porters residents to and from required areas.
  6. Takes residents for walks.
  7. Assists administration with resident call bells, answering phone calls, and directs messages to the appropriate person.
  8. Assists residents with various technologies in order to keep in contact with family.
  9. Imports and exports deliveries to and from the building.
  10. Feeds low-risk residents, as required.
  11. Participates in maintaining a safe environment for residents and staff by cleaning high touch surfaces, housekeeping duties, and assisting with laundry services, demonstrating an appropriate response to emergencies and safety procedures.
  12. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Experience:

  • Secondary school graduation
  • Demonstrated experience and interest in working with seniors 

Skills/Abilities:

  • A genuine interest and understanding of the needs of the elderly is necessary
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Must be self-directed and sensitive to the needs of the elderly
  • Competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act

Assets:

  • Experience in caring for the elderly
  • Certification in Standard First Aid and CPR

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must be willing to work shifts, including holidays and weekends
  • Must successfully undergo a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • Must have successfully undergone a "two step" tuberculosis skin test within the 12 months prior to employment.
