The Opportunity

The Registered Dietitian ensures that the nutritional care provided is consistent with current College of Dietitians Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) standards. This also includes directing, monitoring, and evaluating the nutritional status of each resident and preparing nutritional care plans according to residents’ individual needs.

The role reports to the Manager, Food & Nutrition Services and has the following accountabilities:

 

  • Assesses and documents the nutritional status of each new resident within MOHLTC standards and regulations.
  • Monitors and evaluates the nutritional status of each resident, including their current nutritional risk, prioritizing as required; documents these reviews as per MOHLTC standards and regulations.
  • Prepares a nutritional care plan for each resident according to individual resident needs, which includes long-range goals.
  • Works collaboratively as one of the clinical experts of the health care team relating medical and biochemical aspects of health and nutrition.
  • Consults with and counsels residents and /or their families about specific nutritional needs.
  • Provides direction to the Manager Food & Nutrition Services and the multidisciplinary team to meet the nutritional needs of residents, including regular menu review and approval.
  • Provides direction to Pioneer Ridge Administration regarding nutrition and food service policies that reflect current standards of practice.

Ideal Candidate

  • Degree majoring in human nutrition and dietetics
  • Three years of therapeutic experience in a long-term care facility
  • Current membership as a Registered Dietitian in the College of Dietitians of Ontario
  • An understanding of the nutritional and eating needs of the frail elderly is necessary
