The Opportunity

As a Registered Practical Nurse, assumes the team leader role of the Resident Home Area including resident care, staff, and the environment within the RPN scope of practice; provides optimum individualized resident care in accordance with the Standards of Nursing Practice, College of Nurses of Ontario, and long-term care legislation.

 

This role reports to the Clinical Manager with the following accountabilities:

  • As a valued member of the team, the Registered Practical Nurse demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality care in accordance with the Pioneer Ridge vision, mission, and caring philosophy.
  • Plans, implements, coordinates, and evaluates the nursing care of the residents to meet their physical, psychological, emotional, cultural, spiritual, and social needs.
  • Completes all required documentation including assessment, care plans, medical documentation, MDS and RAI.
  • Encourages resident participation and family support in activities of daily living and participates in the provision of health promotion.
  • Creates a comfortable and safe environment that provides for opportunities for privacy, dignity, autonomy, independence and individuality and maintenance of personal lifestyle, values, and resident rights. Demonstrates clinical skills by recognizing the importance of maintaining resident independence through promotion and encouragement of their involvement in Activities of Daily Living.

Ideal Candidate

  • Current unrestricted certificate of competence (registration in good standing) as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario and proof of current Basic Cardiac Life Support.
  • Knowledge of long-term care legislation; specifically, the Long Term Care Home Act as well as the Residents Bill of Rights
  • Experience in Long Term Care or gerontology
  • Ability to identify, understand, and meet/exceed the requirements of internal and external customers
