Manager - Budgets & Financial Planning

 

The Opportunity

Reporting to the City Treasurer, you will be responsible for the effective and efficient management of the Corporation’s budget, tangible capital asset reporting and long-term planning requirements.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy municipality where you will lead a team and work in partnership with the City’s Executive Management and Leadership Teams to develop the City’s annual operating and capital budget and long-term financial plan and manage the general ledger chart of accounts for the Corporation. You will also participate as a member of the City Treasurer Management team in the development of strategic initiatives for the Division consistent with the overall strategic direction of the Corporate Services Department.

This is a unique opportunity to be a public servant and work with City officials, leaders and members of City Council to help shape the City’s annual budget, which will fund services and infrastructure for the Thunder Bay community.

 

Ideal Candidate

  • University degree in business administration, commerce or a related discipline and a professional accounting designation with a minimum of five years’ progressively responsible management experience in municipal finance or business management.
  • Knowledge of regulations/legislation and processes related to financial reporting for local governments, generally accepted accounting principles for the public sector as prescribed by the Public Sector Accounting Board of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with members of City Council, private and public officials, direct reports, co-workers and the general public.
  • Proven acumen in business and financial management, with the ability to improve sectional effectiveness and efficiency through the management and utilization of human, financial and physical resources.
