The Opportunity

The Supervisor Financial Services responsible for the direction and overall management of the financial planning, budget co-ordination and control, accounting systems, and the supervision of the financial & administrative section for the City of Thunder Bay’s Long-Term Care and Senior Services (“LTC”).

 

This role reports to the Manager, Central Support Services and has the following accountabilities:

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participates as a member of LTC’s senior management team.
  • Develops, implements and monitors the Unit’s procedures for the LTC related to financial management, budgeting and reporting.
  • Directs and co-ordinates the financial planning of the LTC.
  • Develops and maintains the LTC's accounting systems as required by the Municipality and the Province.
  • Develops and administers annual operating and capital budgets for the Municipality and the Province.
  • Acts as controller of the LTC's budget and financial processes.
  • Prepares financial and statistical reports for the Municipality, the Ministry of Health - Long Term Care Division and other bodies.

The Ideal Candidate

This position requires:

  • Degree in business administration, commerce, mathematics, or related discipline; and
  • Professional accounting designation with a minimum of three years’ experience in financial management and administrative procedures, preferably in a Health Care accounting field; or
  • Degree in business administration commerce, mathematics, or related discipline, with a minimum of five years’ experience in financial management and administrative procedures, preferably in a Health Care accounting field.
  • Previous Supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Must have demonstrated administrative and leadership abilities and a genuine interest in being part of a management team dedicated to understanding and providing for the needs of the elderly.
  • Must be familiar with the Acts and Regulations governing the operation of a long-term care facility and its programs.
